On Thursday, December 28, at a private hospital in Chennai, Tamil actor and DMDK chairman Vijayakanth passed away. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences for his loss. “Extremely saddened by the passing away of Thiru Vijayakanth Ji,” PM Modi wrote in a post on X, the erstwhile Twitter.
“It will be difficult to fill the void left by his passing,” he continued. I remember our exchanges over the years with fondness because he was a close friend. I’m thinking of his family, admirers, and a large following during this difficult time. OM, Shanti.
His captivating performance won millions of hearts, making him a legendary figure in the Tamil film industry. He made a significant contribution to public service as a political leader and changed Tamil Nadu’s political climate for the better, the prime minister added.
On December 28, Vijayakanth passed away in a Chennai private hospital. His condition declined, and he was admitted to Chennai’s MIOT Hospital. After being admitted to the hospital with pneumonia, Vijayakanth was reportedly on ventilator support.
Vijayakanth was put on a ventilator for breathing problems after testing positive for COVID earlier in the day, according to his party; however, the hospital bulletin stated he was fighting pneumonia. PTI was informed by hospital sources that the party released that statement prior to the release of the findings for the second set of tests.
The actor-turned-politician has been dealing with health problems since November of this year.
