In the action film Monkey Man, which opens in theaters everywhere on April 5, actor Dev Patel will unleash his desi-John Wick. On Friday night, the Hollywood studio Universal Pictures released the official trailer, which showcases the film’s breathtaking and expertly choreographed pursuit and combat scenes. This is also the film’s first directing effort for Patel.
Inspired by the story of Lord Hanuman, Monkey Man is a Mumbai-based film that stars Lionel Stander as a man seeking revenge on the unscrupulous leaders who killed his mother and still victimize the weak and impoverished on a systemic basis.
With this film, Indian actor Sobhita Dhulipala is slated to make her Hollywood debut. She posted the movie’s trailer on Instagram. Sharing the trailer for my first Hollywood film, Monkey Man, brings me great joy. It opens in theaters everywhere on April 5,” she wrote.
The monkey man trailer:
The teaser for Monkey guy, which draws inspiration from the Hanuman legend, presents the audience with the turbulent life of a young guy named Kid who leads a suppressed existence. He works as a waitress at a nightclub and as a fighter who goes by a gorilla mask. Nevertheless, he has a secret goal to exact revenge on the city’s corrupt elites who killed his mother.
The trauma Kid experienced after losing his mother is further depicted in the teaser. My mother used to tell me a tale about a demon king and his army when I was a young lad. They spread fear and fire over the region until they encountered The White Monkey, the people’s guardian,” he adds in the voiceover as a flashback to Kid’s early years is shown.
With its intense action sequences, scary battle scenes, deep language, and chase scenes, the teaser is guaranteed to raise audience expectations. The antagonists in the film are Sikandar Kher and Makarand Deshpande.
Dev Patel portrays Kid, a nameless young guy who struggles to make ends meet in an underground fight club where he gets brutally beaten for pay by more well-known fighters every night while donning a gorilla mask.
“Child finds a means to sneak into the city’s evil elite’s enclave after years of holding his anger inside.” His hands, which seem to have scarred him inexplicably, unleash an explosive campaign of retribution to exact revenge on the individuals who stole everything from him as his childhood trauma boils over, according to the official logline.
Along with Sharlto Copley, the film also stars Adithi Kalkunte, Pitobash, Makarand Deshpande, Sikandar Kher, Vipin Sharma, and Ashwini Kalsekar. In the teaser, Patel fights in a ring, sparring with Kher by hand and taking on other crooks in a manner that is similar to the retired assassin played by Keanu Reeves in the four John Wick films.
Coincidentally, Monkey Man is also supported by Thunder Road Films, one of the makers of the John Wick series. Patel, Jomon Thomas, Oscar-winning director Jordan Peele, Ian Cooper, Win Rosenfeld, Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee, Christine Haebler, and Anjay Nagpal are among the producers of the movie.
Mixed reaction from the social media:
Another commenter brought out the fact that Dev Patel, like Idris Elba, has released a James Bond film. Thank you to Idris Elba and Dev Patel for effectively stating, “F*ck it, you won’t make me Bond? I’ll handle it on my own. #Luther #MonkeyMan,” their post said.
Monkey Man was dubbed the “Indian John Wick” by another user. The preview teaser Dev engaging in hand-to-hand combat with Sikandar Kher in a ring, as well as taking on many crooks in a style reminiscent of the retired assassin portrayed by Keanu Reeves in the four John Wick movies. It just so happens that Thunder Road Films, a producer of the John Wick series, is also behind Monkey Man.
The most wild and horny thing that comes to mind is the “Dev Patel action star.” Who the hell didn’t see that vision when they viewed The Green Knight? A user stated, “Thanks to Jordan Peele, I’m soaking in a theater watching a movie called Monkey Man.”
