Aditya-L1 Successfully Accomplished

On January 6, 2024 (IST), at 16.00 hours, the solar observatory spacecraft Aditya-L1 underwent Halo-Orbit Insertion (HOI). The maneuver’s last phase featured a brief period of control engine firing.

The Aditya-L1 spacecraft is in a periodic Halo orbit, with a period of approximately 177.86 earth days, and is situated approximately 1.5 million km from Earth on the continually changing Sun-Earth line. This Halo orbit, which involves the Sun, Earth, and a spacecraft, is a periodic, three-dimensional orbit at L1. This particular halo orbit was chosen to provide a five-year mission lifetime, reduce the amount of fuel required for station-keeping maneuvers, and maintain an uninterrupted view of the sun.
