Drones and missiles were used by Iran on Wednesday to attack Pakistan, claiming to target two bases used by the terrorist organization Jaish al-Adl. This came a day after the elite Revolutionary Guards carried out similar operations against Syria and Iraq. Pakistan denounced Iran’s “unprovoked violation of its airspace” and threatened “consequences” in a sharply worded statement. Pakistan has reported that three children have been injured and two children have died as a result of the attack by Iran.
The Army of Justice’s (Jaish al-Adl) two “important headquarters” in Pakistan were “destroyed,” according to Al Arabiya News.
Pakistan has sent its “strongest condemnation of this clear violation” of its sovereignty and called on the Iranian charge d’affaires to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Although the location of the victims was not disclosed by the Pakistani Foreign Office, rumors are that the bases were in Balochistan and that one of the terror group’s main headquarters was struck.
Pakistan claimed it “vehemently protests the violation of its sovereignty” and described Iran’s attack as a “unprovoked violation of its airspace”. It is wholly inappropriate and could have detrimental effects.
Pakistan has consistently maintained that all of the countries in the area are at risk from terrorism, necessitating concerted response. Such unilateral actions can gravely damage bilateral trust and confidence and are not consistent with good neighborly ties, Pakistan stated in a statement.
Iran classified Jaish al-Adl, which was founded in 2012, as a “terrorist” organization. The Sunni terrorist organization Jaish al-Adl is active in the region of Sistan-Baluchistan in southeast Iran. Jaish al-Adl has attacked Iranian security personnel multiple times over the years.
At least eleven police officers were killed in an attack on a Sistan-Baluchistan police station in December, for which Jaish al-Adl claimed responsibility.
