The declaration was made by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari in person at the Mint Sustainability Summit. “I’m going to launch the popular (Toyota) Innova car on 100% ethanol on August 29,” he declared. Toyota has expressly altered the Innova to run entirely on ethanol, in line with the Union Minister’s demand that mainstream automakers launch electric and alternative fuel-powered passenger cars.
Significant advancements in the passenger EV market are anticipated for the forthcoming fiscal year 2024–2025. Notably, he unveiled the Toyota Mirai fuel cell electric vehicle in India last year. He continued by saying that a notable spike in petrol costs in 2004 sparked his interest in biofuels. He visited Brazil during that time to obtain in-depth expertise. He went on to say that biofuels might produce some really amazing outcomes and significantly lower the foreign exchange costs associated with the import of petroleum.
He stated that he believed biofuels may provide amazing results and save a significant amount of money that would otherwise be spent on petroleum imports. Gadkari wants to create an industry that can sustain itself in order to make up for the Rs. 16 lakh crore that is currently spent on oil imports. The Toyota Innova with ethanol propulsion is expected to be the first electrified flex-fuel vehicle in history to meet BSVI stage 2 pollution regulations.
He also mentioned that a number of road projects, valued at approximately Rs. 65,000 crore in total, should be finished by the end of this year. The construction of the Dwarka Expressway is one example of this. In addition, he emphasized the negative effects of chemical pesticides and fertilizers and the significance of protecting the ecosystem.
